Well, since my walk earlier i have been working on an assignment for my advanced web design class.
I can't stand doing these fake web sites. They never give you any content, they expect you to make it
all up or find it on free stock photo sites. It is ridiculous. If I am making a site for a gardening company,
is it unreasonable to expect some original photography? Maybe even a logo?? I think these assignments
are way too broad, and force me to waste time coming up with fake content instead of focusing on the
creation of the website.
To give a little more insight to the situation I am a receptionist at a doctor's office that does not enjoy what
she does. So I decided to complete my degree online, in desperate hope that I may find a job that I can
have a little fun at. Visual communication is my major and i am learning a lot and having a lot of fun
making pretty things with my computer. however, it very often strikes me during my web design and
graphic design classes that a lot of extra time is spent developing corporate identities, content and text
bodies for web sites, and even searching for appropriate stock photos. Is this what the industry expects?
I somehow assumed content would be handed to me on a silver platter, and all i would do is arrange it
nicely.
